Sculpting in Crete with Muses of Crete! A particularly inspiring island for sketching and sculpting.
We organize an exclusive and exciting week in West Crete with artist Judith van Lunsen and the guide Tanit Lopez. We stay in an authentic shepherd’s village in West Crete, in a luxurious country house surrounded by ancient olive trees and with a splendid view of the beautiful White Mountains. Every day we provide a nice program with sketches and sculptures, enchanting walks, historical places, culinary enjoyment and of course we chose the best addresses and share knowledge and some nice anecdotes with the guests.
A fantastic and unique location:
We stay in West Crete, in the beautiful region of Apokoronas, an authentic shepherd region, in the high-lying village Drapanos with a magnificent view of the mountains and sea. Villa Drapani is a luxuriously renovated country house. The interior was designed by TVB design with the use of wood, iron and natural stone. The refined elegance and modernity is in perfect harmony with the authentic. The house has a large dining room with open kitchen, a sitting room, 4 bedrooms, two bathrooms and an extra toilet. Outside, the residence has several terraces with plants, trees and many flowers, also very suitable for sketching, sculpting and enjoying the outdoors in peace. We can cook and eat outside using the terrace with bar and barbecue by the pool.
Our program:
Workshop “The olive tree and myths”: Workshop (Olive tree, olive wood) with Judith: Three half-days with sketches. The olive tree can be found in many myths, cultures and civilizations. We are inspired by the beauty, the intriguing and sensual shapes of the trunk and the mythical character of the beautiful trees.
Culinary enjoyment: Every day well-prepared meals with delicacies on the menu, but also grandma’s recipes with wild plants, herbs and of course the olive oil and wine from the island. We stay in fantastic atmospheric locations, with authentic good Cretan cuisine and using the fantastic local products.
Cooking together: “The ancient recipes of Crete”: A cooking demonstration with the secrets of the Cretan diet, wild edible plants and typical local ingredients.
Chania town, villages, archaeological finds and culture: A visit to the lively beautiful old Venetian port city and the authentic villages with a rich history that we will discover together.
– Olive picking and olive factory: Harvest and process olives together, meet the 4000-year-old olive tree, visit an olive oil museum and an olive oil factory to see the whole production process up close.
Walks and Sightseeing: Walks through mountains, olive groves, villages and towns to get to know the customs, culture and historical heritage of the country. The walks are relatively easy and have an average duration of three hours. Visit and fully enjoy nature, flowers, wild herbs, the beautiful varied landscape with mountains, gorges and the clear blue sea.
Wine, cheese and olives: Crete produces olive oil from ancient times, but also many other products such as cheese and wine. And of course a visit to a winery with wine tasting on our program!
